Fix: FC Barcelona sells Philippe Coutinho to Aston Villa
Both clubs confirmed on Thursday evening that the previous loan has passed into a fixed transfer. Coutinho signed a four -year contract at Villa, Barça, according to his own statements, receives a transfer fee of 20 million euros and also anchored a clause in the deal, according to which 50 percent of the transfer will flow to Catalonia.
However, it is uncertain whether this will pay off financially – because Coutinho turns 30 in a month and because he feels very comfortable in Birmingham. Since his arrival in January, the Brazilian, under coach Steven Gerrard, has developed into a key player on the offensive. He collected four goals and three assists in 16 league inserts.
Gerrard enthusiastic: “Brilliant transfer”
“This is a brilliant transfer for Aston Villa,” says Gerrard in a message from the Premier League twelfth. “Phil is a sample professional. Since he came in January, its effect on the team was very clear.” In addition, the former Liverpooler is a “valuable role model” for the young players.
In Barcelona, Coutinho’s career had previously stalled. He had never really been able to fulfill the high expectations that were linked to its approximately 140 million euro commitment in early 2018.
